Cash for Appliances
A reminder blog
By: Kenny Melcombe
This is a follow up blog that reiterates the Cash for Appliance program starting this Thursday, April 29th.
California began a ‘Cash for Appliances’ program on Thursday (Earth Day) and will run through May 23. If you purchase a new energy-efficient appliance and recycle your old one you can get a rebate of $200 for refrigerators, $100 for clothes washers and $50 for room air conditioners. To qualify you must live in California, the purchase, installation and recycling must take place in California. No out-of-state or Internet purchases are eligible.
The new appliances must be rated as energy-efficient by the Energy Star program. Your rebate submission must include a completed and signed application, proof of appliance recycling, a copy of the new appliance sales receipt, a copy of a utility bill and proof of purchase (i.e. UPC label).
No retroactive purchases qualify. The program website provides all the necessary details: www.cash4appliances.org. Rebates are on a first-come, first-serve basis until funds are depleted. This is NOT a tax credit but a rebate from the State of California and can be combined with manufacturer and Southern California Edison rebates.
For other state rebate programs, visit the Southern California Edison website at www.sce.com/RebatesandSavings or www.fypower.org.
